Lynn Hartwig

(nee Schultz)

Of Milwaukee passed away on September 21st at the age of 81. Lynn was a force of nature who did not know how to give up until her body finally did. Born to Roberta and Edward J. Schultz in Cincinnati, OH, she moved to Milwaukee in 1961 and met William J. Hartwig and chose him for forever, despite his passing in May of 1993. Lynn’s values were clear: doing hard work, being educated, and creating beauty. Lynn instilled in her daughter Karen and son Bill the importance of perseverance and respect. Being a good mother was deeply important to her. In 1967 she purchased her dream home on Lake Drive on the East Side and it became an important part of the fabric of her family and a labor of love. As long as she was physically able, she would spend full days either out in the garden or inside sanding, stripping and painting windows and shutters to perfection. Imbued with a sense of etiquette, style and taste, Lynn was deliberate about everything that deserved her time. Her annual red geraniums on the front steps of her home were a given. In 1979, she opened a retail store, Paperwork, on Downer Avenue with a friend and partner. She assumed full ownership a few years later, and continued to be, for many families, the reliable source for their wedding invitations, stationery and birth announcements for a total of 37 years. Lynn was someone who always had candy or cookies nearby, a quick wit, and an endless appetite for interesting conversation. A striking individual, Lynn has left an indelible mark on those who knew her.

Lynn is survived by her children Karen (Mary Amicucci) and Bill (Bonnie-Ann), her beloved sister Karen Schultz (Joe Chickey), and the grandchildren she adored, William, Liesel, and Capek. She was preceded in death by her brother Edward “Spike” Schultz and sister Sylvia Johanning. The family would like to thank friends and care givers who visited regularly to make sure she was comfortable and fed until it was no longer possible for her to be at home. A funeral mass will be held at a later date.
