Burial will be held at Wisconsin Memorial Park Cemetery.

Surrounded by the love of her friends and family Maren passed peacefully into the arms of God after a courageous battle with cancer. Maren was a person of resolute and great faith, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, teacher and friend to so many.  She had such a profound impact on many young minds through her career both as a teacher with Milwaukee Public Schools as well as her volunteer work as a Sunday School teacher at the Lutheran Chapel of the Cross in Milwaukee, where she was a member for many years until moving to Franklin, and continued to cherish the bonds of faith and friendship with her church friends to the end.  She continued to volunteer throughout her life, mentoring students, serving meals at homeless shelters and assisting others at The Lutheran Home.

Maren was a 1957 graduate of Lincoln High School in Milwaukee and cherished her friendships with classmates, organizing and looking forward to their annual reunions. She went on to attend the University of Wisconsin and earned her teaching degree later at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee.  It was during her college years that she was introduced by mutual friends to Tom, the love of her life. They were married in 1960 and shared a beautiful 54 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2014.  They shared many wonderful experiences as they raised their three sons and expanded their ever-increasing circle of friends as part of the Bay View neighborhood, and later in Greendale.

Always a lover of the arts, Maren loved the theater and  took part in many local musical productions.  Her genuine enthusiasm and joy shined through as she encouraged her family in pursuit of music and theater, and rarely missed  performances of her grandchildren, whether it be in music, theater or sports. She often got ‘the giggles’ during those music concerts and stage performances, but always beamed with pride. She would always have a melody in her heart and would inevitably find ways to break into Broadway show tunes at most any occasion, much to the dismay of her boys and grandkids.

Maren loved to watch and cheer her grandkids on as they participated in all kinds of sports and activities and was always vocal from the bleachers.  She loved the Brewers, was an advocate for the underdog and encouraged everyone to be their best version of themselves in anything they did. She was a hugger, and her patient, kind and good nature was an example to everyone she met, and to many people she hadn’t yet.

That meek exterior disguised the interior tenacity of a true competitor, as many of her friends and family will attest to, as she had a love for playing any and all type of games, stretching the rules at times, but always with a good nature and making sure that everyone had a good time.

She cherished her time with friends and family.  To the end she had a social calendar that put us all to shame, whether it was volunteering, cards, lunch or movie nights with friends, church and neighborhood organizations or Zumba at the YMCA.

In life she was a teacher, and even now Maren continues to offer lessons to us all as well as the untold thousands of people whose lives she has positively impacted through her legacy of selflessness, patience, faithfulness, kindness, compassion and love.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to The Conservancy for Healing and Heritage in Franklin, Wisconsin.  The Reiman Healing Chapel in the Woods and the Healing Garden were one of Maren’s favorite places to peacefully reflect on her faith, family, friends and her many blessings. https://theconservancy.org/healing-chapel

I don’t have a single one memory of Marny that stands out because every memory of her has been and still is special. I am a better person for knowing her.

My heart is broken with the loss of my best friend of 35 plus years. Teaching together, field trips, theatre, travel, dining out, museum visits, a walk, Christmas parties at the Seymour home, games, songs, Monet Exhibit, classes, a cone at Purple Door Ice Cream and hugs and kisses are a few of the memories I will forever treasure ❤️❤️❤️
