Marguerite Mary Bruss (“Marge”), age 99, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2021, after losing her long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Marge was born in Milwaukee, WI, on June 19, 1922, the third of five children of Anton and Anna (Braun) Spies. She was a life long Milwaukee area resident.

She graduated from Girls Tech High School in Milwaukee in 1940 and Miss Brown’s School of Business thereafter. Marge used her business knowledge as a long time volunteer at Trinity Lutheran Church in West Allis.

During World War II, Marge supported the war effort as a Red Cross volunteer. She met the love of her life, Harold W. Bruss, at a USO dance after the war. She married Harold December 27, 1947. The 59 year marriage to Harold produced three sons: Douglas, Larry and Richard, four grandsons, and two great grandsons.

Her passions included roses, reading, traveling, and round dancing. Marge flourished creatively by making fabulous Halloween costumes for her children and Christmas ornaments out of household items. She designed miniature Christmas scenes on racquetball can covers and inside “Leggs” pantyhose containers. Her Chinese brush paintings sold locally.

According to her family, Marge made the world’s best apple pie.

Survivors include: sons Douglas, Larry (Cathy Cuccia); grandsons Matthew (Bryn Martyna), Ryan (Morgan Baab), Andrew, Nathan; great grandsons Calvin, Lucas, step great granddaughter Julia, and other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold, son Richard and siblings Benny, Rosie, Dorothy and Tony.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 27, 2021 at TRINITY EV. LUTHERN CHURCH, 2500 S. 68th St. from 4-6PM with a Funeral Service at 6PM. Private family interment Highland Memorial Park.

A special thank you to the entire staff at The Arboretum in Menomonee Falls for providing excellent care to Marge for almost five years.
