Mari L. Van Lieshout passed away at home on May 4, 2021. She was born in Appleton WI on August 14, 1958 and lived there until moving to Milwaukee after graduating from Appleton West High School in 1976. Mari attended UW Milwaukee for two years while working at Marshall Fields. She then started working at Columbia/St Mary’s (1980- ’93) in her first job in a payroll department that would eventually lead to a career in payroll supervision/management. Mari then moved to a similar role at Aurora Health Care (1993-2013) and most recently at Empower Retirement as a payroll consultant.

She loved her friends and family and they in turn loved her and will miss her sweet smile and joyful laughter. She was always first to volunteer her help to anyone in need and will be remembered as a kind loving soul with an unwavering work ethic.

She was preceded in death by her parents Peter and Jeanette (Jacobs) and a beloved niece Sherri Van Lieshout. She is survived by a sister Bonnie (Mert) Summers Greenleaf, WI and brothers Michael (Linda) Neenah, WI and David (Nancy) Deerfield, WI. A nephew Kevin (Sandy) Bayer and special nieces Debby (Jeff) Thorn and Vicki Bayer, her godson Aaron Thorn and his brother Jake. Also, her very dear friends Rose K. and Donna S.

To her family, I am so very sorry for your loss. And thank you so much for sharing such nice pictures of her. I miss her already, and can hardly believe there will be no more ‘girls’ dinners or Christmas tree lightings for us all to share. She will be missed.

We live in Mari’s building and she always was a ray of light. When my daughter was little she would give her thoughtful gifts for Christmas. Her smile was so genuine and you could tell she had a heart of gold. We were absolutely stunned and saddened to learn of her passing. God be with her and take care of her. She was the treasurer for our condo and worked hard at it. On top of a real career. I know it wasnt always easy. We are so grateful. The last memory I had was rolling down my window in the driveway this past fall to tell her how nice she looked that day. If I had only known. Prayers to her family and friends for their huge unspeakable loss.

My prayers go out to Mari’s family and friends. I met Mari in the early 1980’s at Columbia Hospital where we worked together. Attached is a picture from back in the day. This had to be in the early 80’s as well. I also worked with Mari at Aurora Health as well. It seems out paths were meant to connect. Mari will truly be missed. Rest in peace Mari.

To Mari’s family: I worked for Mari at Aurora Health Care in the payroll department. She recruited me from the South Market of Aurora. She was such a wonderful person and was always there to help anyone who needed it. We kept in contact after her leaving Aurora and she always had a smile and a funny story to tell of her trips to see her family. She talked of always bringing a ‘monkey’ for the dog.

Please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers during this time. God has wrapped his arms around Mari and she is at peace.

      Dear Melody,
Thank you for the lovely flowers and kind words. I didn’t have an address to send you a thank you card but the flowers were much appreciated by the Van Lieshout family. I was our golden retriever(s) that she spoiled with all the treats and presents. We will all miss her greatly.

      Thanks again,
David and Nancy Van Lieshout and family

I am so very deeply saddened by Mari’s passing. I met Mari when she was consulting at Quad/Graphics and we became instant buddies!!! She helped me get a job as a payroll lead at Aurora and we continued to remain friends. I remember we met for “breakfast” one Saturday morning. Before I knew it, it was 2pm and we still had so much to talk about. Her heart was so huge and filled with love for everyone she met. Bit especially for her family. She spoke of all of her family with such delight in her eyes always. I pray babe didn’t suffer and I know she’s at peace now. Heaven gained a real angel and I will miss her until we meet again. ❤️
