Marian Helen Catania Yoder

Beloved wife, sister, stepmother, Nana, and friend passed away peacefully on July 17, 2024. She just celebrated her 80th birthday and was close to celebrating her 30th wedding anniversary to Dr. Don Yoder.
Preceded in death by her parents, James (a.k.a. Jimmy Mortell) and Irene Catania. She is survived by her loving husband, Don; stepdaughters, Kirsten (Dwight) Morgan and Danica (Matt) Johnson, and five wonderful grandkids. Also survived by her brother Dr. James (Yvonne) Catania; sister, Sharon (Dr. Sam) Sciortino; nieces, Lori (John) Bjelde, Jennifer (Christopher) Watt; nephews, Michael (Tracy) Catania, Joseph Sciortino, and seven delightful grand nieces and nephews. Further survived by other loving relatives and friends.
Marian attended Holy Rosary Grade School, Holy Angels Academy, UWM, and got her Master’s degree at Mount Mary. Marian taught most of her career in MPS, retiring after 30 years, a respected teacher, mentor, and implementer.
Marian was a lifelong Eastsider, living for 25 years at Aster Court and recently at St. John’s on the Lake where she and Don have met many new friends.
After retirement, Don and Marian traveled extensively in the US, Europe, and Asia. Over the years they have enjoyed golf, bridge, bocci ball, music, reading, watching sports, and spending time with the grandkids. Marian also excelled at all kinds of word puzzles.
Marian was involved in many volunteer organizations. The Woman’s Club of Wisconsin gave her the opportunity to meet so many interesting women and a place to be involved in numerous service projects, especially the WCW Foundation that has given grants to many local organizations. She was also on the Board of Directors of Villa Terrace for a number of years. Marian served meals at St. Ben’s and volunteered at the Bottomless Closet. She was dedicated to her parish, Three Holy Women, attending mostly St. Rita’s where she could celebrate her Sicilian roots. She belonged to the Christian Women who support the parish in countless ways. Marian, along with other classmates, arranged for and sponsored a Syrian refugee family for immigration to the United States, which have become successful, advanced in education, and all have become US citizens.
Marian was a people-person. She was friendly, attentive, loyal, and forever inclusive. Her wide circle of friends included her poker group of 50 years, buddies from grade school that she kept in contact with and traveled with before and after she met Don, and recent friends that responded to her friendship and positive outlook on life. Marian will live on in the hearts of those she touched. She leaves behind a community grateful for her service, friendship, and her boundless capacity to give.
A memorial visitation at THREE HOLY WOMEN- HOLY ROSARY (2011 N Oakland Ave. Milwaukee) will take place on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at 10:00 am followed by mass at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Three Holy Women Parish or Woman’s Club of Wisconsin Foundation.

Marian was an excellent teacher and an integral part of the Hi Mount leadership team. She went on to be a city-wide mentor teacher, where she was particularly successsful.
She was also a great friend.
