    • South Shore Yacht Club, 2300 E. Nock Street, Milwaukee

Marilyn Giaimo (née Block) passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 8, 2021. She was 88 years old. Marilyn was the beloved wife of Sam Giaimo (deceased), and loving mother of Mary (Paul Metzger), Susan (Henry Wend), Kathryn (Gary Butler), and Mark (Usma Khan). She was also the proud grandmother of Sam Wend and David Metzger. She was preceded in death by her sister, Lee Anne Dukes, and she is survived by her brothers Robert, Michael, and Richard Zaleski, as well as an extended family on both sides who love her very much.

Marilyn was proud of her roots in Bay View, Milwaukee. She loved music and was an accomplished pianist. She earned her Master’s Degree in Art History at UW–Milwaukee, and as a Senior Member of the American Society of Appraisers she had a long and distinguished  career as a fine-arts appraiser. She was an administrator and later a docent at Villa Terrace and the Milwaukee Art Museum. She also taught art history at Edison Community College in Sarasota, Florida. She gifted her children with a love of music, the arts, and poetry.

Marilyn had a deep love for Lake Michigan and considered it her spiritual home. She also loved the beauty of Florida’s Gulf Coast, where she lived in Naples for many years. Her kindness, compassion, and empathy touched all who knew her. She was beautiful in every way, and we will miss her very much. Marilyn (Mumz) was the best mom in the universe.

The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Azura Brookfield and Brighton Hospice for their kindness.

A celebration of Marilyn’s life will take place on Thursday, August 26, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at South Shore Yacht Club, 2300 E. Nock Street, Milwaukee, WI 53207. A private interment will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Marilyn Giaimo’s name to any of these organizations: the Milwaukee Art Museum (mam.org); Villa Terrace (villaterrace.org); or the Bay View Historical Society (bayviewhistoricalsociety.org).  Thank you.

Aunt Mame was the sweetest creature to walk the earth. When I was little I thought her name was Auntie Meem. She always had a smile on her face, and kindness and gentleness sparkled in her eyes, always making you feel safe. Reading how she “gifted” her kids with music, art and poetry makes my heart smile. As her brother Rob told me, “she was ahead of her time.” She lived a beautiful life, and I hope she continues to be our guardian angel. RIP Aunt Meem. 🙂 ❤️🙏🌟

    Dear Marilyn’s family,
Chuck and I are unable to be at the celebration of a most wonderful gal, your mother. We have so many memories of both Mom and Dad! Chuck talks about sailing many Macs with your Dad as well as sharing a business in Florida. We got to know your wonderful Mom as well! I always looked forward to seeing her at our Holly Berry luncheon every year Her smile greeted me across the room and then a shared hug! Not only was she a kind and gentle soul, she was so talented and full of creativity.. We didn’t know you kids very well but Mom just glowed talking about all of you. Hugs to all of you and we know you will keep so many memories in your hearts.
Love and sweet memories, Chuck and Shelley

As a volunteer for the Bay View Historical Society (BVHS), I met Marilyn several years ago. She came to an open house at the historic Beulah Brinton House owned by the BVHS. She offered to help as a volunteer and subsequently assisted with welcoming guests at the monthly open house. It was a pleasure to be with her on these occasions and share recollections of Bay View. She was a delightful woman and I am grateful to have met her. I was not in Milwaukee on August 26 so I could not attend her life celebration but was there in thought.

Aunt Marilyn was my cherished godmother.

In my conversations with Aunt Marilyn, I especially remember how she would greet me with a smile, was always soft spoken, and had a word of encouragement to leave with me.

So, in following Aunt Marilyn’s lead, my word of encouragement to share with all of you, is to follow the cross, Jesus Christ that is, so when the time comes, you too can find your way home, as she did.
