As a priest who with some regularity and over a number of years was invited to fill in for the pastor at St. Gregory the Great parish I had the privilege of crossing paths with Mary – mostly in the context of celebrating Sunday and and weekday Masses. I found her to be a delightful lady and one who always brightened my day. Invariable she had a sparkle in her eye. a smile on her face and something kind to say.
My memories of Mary lack some clarity but I remember being corrected by her on how to pronounce Stanczyk (Stan-zak not Staan-check). I also fondly remember being invited to the Christian Women’s Spring Social. Invariably, she would arrive before I did and, when I arrived, insist that she pick up the tab for my Brandy Manhattan.(to which I raised no objection!).
I Know her presence will be missed by her human family and by her spiritual family at St. Greg’s. Know that she and her family will be included in my prayers.

Mary was one of The Silver Foxes, along with my mother, Camille Ford. They shared many adventures, including a trip to Rome, NYC, etc. as well as countless confidences, chuckles tears and even arguments. They weren’t saints, but as close as it gets, along with my grandma Christine, in this lifetime. The passion, the love, the ferocious devotion to her family… Hers was a life well lived and it was a joy to have known her so many years, kitty corner across the backyard and on later.visits to my mom My heart goes out to Patrick, Gail, Mary Jo, all the grandchildren and her countless friends. May her death be honored by the many happy memories she left with all of us. Her spirit lives on!

    Dearest Cousins,
Your mom was a very special person in our family! She was always so kind & caring, and working hard to make everyone happy….and fed!!. I would be remiss if I didn’t say she was always so much fun to be with. We do so love her, and miss her. As I sit in my empty church, praying for her while the funeral is taking place in Milwaukee, fond memories are flashing through my mind. It is ironic but there is a spray of flowers here with a banner “ Loving Auntie”on them! I feel that is a special message from her today, as she certainly was a loving auntie! She truly was a remarkable woman who kept our families close. Now it is up to us to continue that strong extended family relationship that she, my mom Auntie Judy, Auntie Lena, and Uncle Phil built for us! You all are in our thoughts and prayers at this very difficult time of great loss! We share in your grief. We now all have another guardian angel to watch over us! God bless you all! I love and miss you all!
