Passed away peacefully on July 10, 2013 at the age of 92. Loving husband of Loretta for 71 years. Beloved father of Judy (Richard) Toth of Fox Point, WI, Michael (Joy) Wingert of Boulder, CO, John (Corinne) Wingert of Honolulu, HI. Dear grandfather (Opa) of Michael (Catrina Rambousek) Toth, Susan (David Maurina) Toth , Sara (Ethan) Zweig, Kimberley (Leland) Kudaishi, Zachary Wingert, Andrew Wingert, and the late Christopher Toth. Great grandfather of Eric, Kingston-Lee, Alexa, and Caleb.

Mel served in the US Coast Guard during WWII and was a graduate of Spencerian College. He was a 38 year veteran of the Milwaukee Police Department working as a patrolman and as a detective on the vice squad and in the detective bureau and internal affairs. Mel also was a member of the Milwaukee Police Post #415 American Legion.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Vincent de Paul Society or Aurora VNA Zilber Family Hospice appreciated.

Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9 AM – 10:30 AM at BLESSED SACRAMENT CATHOLIC CHURCH (3126 S. 41st St.). Memorial Mass will follow at 10:30 AM. Private inurnment at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
