Michael Charles O’Byrne

Age 72 of Bayside, Wisconsin passed away on January 6, 2020. Michael is survived by his wife of 52 years Mary Elizabeth (Dryden), four children Margaret (Bill) Pauwels Manitowoc, WI, Elizabeth (Andrew) King Lexington, VA, Michael D. (Medea) O’Byrne Lexington, VA and Patricia (Patrick) Ormsby Glendale, WI. He leaves behind 10 very loved grandchildren Aaron, Matthew, Michelle, Justin, Ethan and Cyrus Pauwels, James King, Charlotte Mary O’Byrne, Ian and Lily Ormsby. He is also survived by his brother Dr. Stuart A. (Dotty) O’Byrne, his Keefe family cousins and Rauch family cousins, his brother-in-law Peter (Mary) Dryden, his niece and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Stuart Graves and Loretta Abbott O’Byrne.

Michael was born March 3, 1947 in Oak Park, Illinois. He grew up primarily in Chicago. He attended St. George High School in Evanston, Illinois and Loyola University in Chicago.

He met his wife Mary in a calculus class at Loyola. They married on September 16, 1967 in Chicago. In 1967 Michael went to work for IBM. He worked for 30 years at IBM in Chicago, Bethesda, Maryland and Milwaukee, WI as a system engineer. After IBM he worked at Aldrich Chemical, Manpower International finally retiring from Footlocker Corporate Headquarters.

He was always involved in community and religious activities. When he lived on the East Coast he was a docent at the Smithsonian Natural History Museum. Since moving to Wisconsin Michael was an EMT and firefighter on the Bayside Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad for 13 years. He served 9 years on the Maple Dale & Indian Hill School Board as clerk and President. He was on the St. Eugene Parish Council, School Board and sang beautifully in their choir. After joining Three Holy Women Catholic Parish he was on the Parish Council, Catholic East School Board and helped at numerous parish events. Again he enriched the Three Holy Women choir with his voice.

Michael was a true gentleman always willing to help anyone who knew him.

Visitation January 23, 2020 Holy Rosary Church 2011 N. Oakland 4-5:30 PM. Mass following at 5:30PM. Gathering to remember Michael at William Ho’s Restaurant 3524 N. Oakland following Mass. (Limited parking is available in the lot across the street.)

Inurment in a private ceremony at a later date.
