Norman Kenneth Johnson
Norman Kenneth Johnson, 83, passed away on November 11, 2001 in Ladysmith, Wisconsin. The first son of Harry and Jennie Hogle Johnson, he was born July 26, 1918 in Fairwater, Wisconsin.
He graduated from Brandon High School and attended Ripon College. He moved to Palmyra in 1939. He married Dorothy Burnham on October 25, 1940. He served with the US Army in Italy and Germany during World War II. Norm worked as a carpenter and homebuilder for most of his life. He was employed at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater from 1969 – 1983. After his retirement from UW-Whitewater, he was a part-time employee for JAC Manufacturing of Palmyra. He had been a member of the Palmyra Fire Department, the Palmyra Village Board, the Palmyra Historical Society, the Palmyra United Methodist Church, and was a Past Master of the Palmyra Lodge #68 F & AM of Wisconsin. Norm and Dorothy were the Honored Old Settlers of Palmyra in 1995. Many people will remember Norm as a master at making oyster stew. For many years, during the holiday season, he would take great pride in making large quantities of the stew for the annual Palmyra Masonic Lodge Oyster Stew Supper.
He is survived by three of his daughters, Candy Jim Patrick of Ladysmith, Annyd John Fairchild of DePere, Diana Bill Thomas of Dousman, his daughter-in-law Donna Wenzel Johnson of Palmyra and his son-in-law Peter Shepeck of Wheaton, Illinois. He was the proud grandfather of 10: Paul Kari Johnson, Carolee John Samson, Justin and Josh Thomas, Karla and Christopher Shepeck, Erin and Alee Fairchild, Amy Terry Viegut and Brad Patrick; a very proud great-grandfather of Alyssa and Aaron Johnson, Kelsi Hessen, Kasi Samson, and Bailey and Wyatt Viegut. He is further survived by his brother-in-law Dean Marie Burnham of Dayton, Ohio and sisters-in-law Pattie Fred Frick of Wauwatosa, Barbara Lou Shook of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Allie Harold Figi of Janesville, and Joyce Johnson of Kiel, Wisconsin.
Norm was preceeded in death by his parents, his wife on April 26, 2001, his son Terry on July 18, 2001, his daughter Charlotte on July 21, 1993, a grandson in 1965 and his brother Henry, Jr. in 1971.
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00pm on Wednesday, November 14 at Heritage Funeral Home in Palmyra. There will be a visitation from 10:00am until the time of the funeral service at 11:00am at the Palmyra Methodist Church on Thursday, November 15.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Palmyra Fire Department, P.O. Box 399, Palmyra, WI 53156 would be appreciated. The Heritage Funeral Home in Palmyra is assisting the family.
