Normunds Janis Upite

On Friday November 18th, 2022 Normunds Janis Upite age 88, was born to eternal life. Beloved husband of Inara (nee Gilis) for almost 59 years.  Loving father of Aija (Christian) Jantz, Vija (Glenn) Sommers, and Inta (Frank Carr) Upite.  Cherished Opaps of Charles, Aleksandra, and Andris.  Brother of Viesturs (Laila) Upite. Uncle to Biruta, Davids, Edmars, Sandra, Zaiga and Marks.  Also survived by other relatives and friends here and in Latvia. Preceded in death by his parents Janis and Milda Upite, and sister Inara Veidemanis.

Normunds was born on August 6th, 1934 in Riga, Latvija.  Following WWII Normunds and his family emigrated to America and settled in Michigan.  During this time, he proudly served in the U.S. Army.  Soon he met the love of his life, Inara, and moved to Menomonee Falls, WI.  During this time, he worked at PPG and was active in the Latvian community.  He enjoyed fellowship with fellow Latvians as a proud member of the Latvian Fraternity, Patria, and the Milwaukee Latvian church.  Normunds enjoyed photography, history, classic movies, chess and loved to travel.  He especially enjoyed his cottage; where he spent his time fishing, gardening, swimming, smoking fish and hosting friends and family.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at Milwaukee Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Holy Trinity Church, 1853 N. 75th St. Wauwatosa, WI 53213 from 10:00 AM until the time of Funeral Services at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Church or Talcinieki Latvijai.
