Internment  Service- Wednesday, September 1, 2021 @ 10AM SOUTHERN WISCONSIN VETERANS MEMORIAL CEMETERY -21731 Spring St. Union Grove-(Please meet at Cemetery  office at 945am).

Raymond Dean Helminski, 74, died peacefully on July 19, 2021, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Born in Chicago, Ray was raised in Milwaukee and graduated from Pius XI High School in 1964. Ray honorably served in the United States Army as an intelligence analyst for the Green Berets from 1965 to 1967.

Following his military service, Ray moved to the east coast to follow his passion for cooking and politics and made Washington, D.C. his home for the next several decades. As a chef, Ray worked for over 30 years for the historic Old Ebbitt Grill, Washington D.C.’s oldest bar and restaurant.

Ray returned to Milwaukee in 2011 after sadly receiving a brain cancer diagnosis, where he bravely fought his illness, and could be closer to family and friends.

Ray is survived by his brothers, Martin Helminski and Joseph Helminski; his four nieces and nephew; and 12 great-nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Helminski and Rose Helminski; brother, Gregory Helminski, and sister, Mary Helminski.

Services and burial will take place on Wednesday, September 1 at 10:00 a.m. at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery located in 21731 Spring Street, Union Grove, Wisconsin. Please arrive by 9:45 a.m. to line up for the procession to the location for the services.

Memorial donations in memory of Ray can be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Zablocki VA Medical Center or American Cancer Society.
