Raymond E.
Pokrop
Pokrop, Raymond Eugene,
Passed away unexpectedly, May 10th, 2012 at the Village of Manor Park in his 83rd year.
Beloved husband of the late Patricia nee Day Pokrop. Loving father of Mary Dale Kehoss, Jeanne John Stowers, Kathleen David Butterfield, Christopher Norm Hower Pokrop, and Lawrence Beth Pokrop. Grandfather of Melanie and VeronicaKehoss, Galen Fletcher, Casey Butterfield, Jazmen and KaylaSandretto, and Adrianna Silva. Brother of Frank Pokrop and Dorothy Majchrzak. Preceded in death by his companion Evelyn Sheehan and sister Gladys Salapa. Also survived by other relatives and friends.
Ray was born on January 8th, 1929 in Milwaukee, the son of Frank and May Pokrop, served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps, received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Notre Dame University and a Master’s degree from Columbia University of New York. He retired from Milwaukee Public Schools in 1988 after serving for 28 years.
Ray is remembered for engaging his family, friends and neighbors with his sharp and often provocative wit. His desire to engage people came out in his readiness to assist neighbors with shoveling out cars after 17th Street snow storms. This continued at Village Manor with his door keeper role ushering people in and out of the main entrance.
Ray always said that God was too distant for humanity. And to bridge that gap, people need an intercessor like Mother Mary or a warmer, more human face to connect with. He saw his late wife Pat as the bridge between the father and the children. Later in life, after Pat was gone, he evolved a warmer, direct generosity with his kids and grandkids. He enjoyed writing artful letters and taking his grandkids shopping.
Visitation will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church, 3100 S. 41st St., from 9:30-10:30AM, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am.
Private interment next to his wife at Wood National Cemetery.
