Entered Eternal Life on Sunday, August 22, 2010. Ray was born on April 1, 1918 in the Town of Lake Milwaukee to John and Mary Frederick Van Beck. Preceded in death by his parents; his son Johnny; his brothers Ted and Father Al; his sisters Anna Arthur Gutknecht, May Leonard Pelczynski, Helen Eugene Bartels and Dorothy Max Dominski. Ray is survived by his daughters Mary Robert Voelker, Margaret Michael Munson and Geraldine Joseph Basile; his grandchildren Amie the late Joe Handal, Matthew Basile, Jim Munson, Steve Erin Munson, Maggie Jason Gehler and Rosie Voelker; his great-granddaughter Avery Munson; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Ray graduated from Pio Nono High School where he played on the All-City Championship football team in 1935. He studied agriculture at UW-Madison and Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. A long-time resident of Oak Creek, Ray owned and operated Van Beck Farms until his retirement in 2006. His business evolved from truck farming to bedding plants and retail. He served as an Oak Creek Civil Service Commissioner from 1966 to 1994.
By his example, Ray taught us all the value of hard work, integrity and self-reliance.
Mass of Christian Burial at ST. STEPHEN S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1441 W. Oakwood Rd., Oak Creek, WI 53154 on Saturday at 10am. Please meet at church. Visitation on Friday at the FUNERAL HOME from 4:00pm until 8:00pm with a prayer vigil at 7:00pm.
