Tomczyk

Richard “Dick” Tomczyk, age 82, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 24, 2024, after a hard-fought battle with Alzheimer’s.

He was born and raised in Milwaukee, attended UWM and was a member of Pershing Rifles and ROTC.  Upon graduation, he was deployed to France as a 1st Lieutenant during the Vietnam War. He was a proud Army veteran.

Upon returning home, he worked at Arthur Anderson as an accountant.  After a few years, he switched careers and acquired graduate degrees in social work and educational psychology.  He worked for Milwaukee County as a social worker in foster care for 25 years.  Later, he worked as a social worker at Mckinley Middle School in Racine.

Dick loved spending time and playing with his grandkids and was affectionately known as “Papa.” In addition, he loved fishing, fantasy football and rock ‘n roll.  He loved reading newspapers and cutting out articles to distribute to others.  If you had a question, he would find the answer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Virginia Tomczyk, and leaves behind his loving wife of 49 years, Karen, and his two devoted children, Julie (Miles) Tokheim and Michael (Cristina) Mason. Dick was a loving papa to grandchildren Drew and Mia Tokheim and Victoria and Henry Mason.  He will also be deeply missed by his sister, Rosemary Walker, sister-in-law, Mary Wood, and aunt Hedder Tomczyk as well as nieces, nephews and cousins and, of course, his furry friend, Jack.

Thank you to the wonderful staff at Froedtert for their extraordinary care, especially Dr. Sippen and Dr. Beckert and the nurses on 5SE.

A Memorial Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 from 10:00am-10:45am followed by a Memorial Mass at 11:00am at St. Mary Catholic Faith Community 9520 W. Forest Home Ave. Hales Corners, WI 53130. A private Inurnment will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association are appreciated.

May you finally rest in peace my love.
