In Loving Memory of
Robert “Rob” D. Flanders
Born: December 5, 1961, in McGregor, IA
Passed Away: July 15, 2023, in Oak Creek, WI.
Rob’s journey began in the small town of McGregor, IA, but it was in Cedar Rapids, IA, where he grew up, graduating from John F. Kennedy High in 1979. He went on to pursue his dreams at Kirkwood Community College, earning an Associate’s Degree in Computer Science. His thirst for knowledge led him to Mount Mercy University, where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science. Rob’s thirst for knowledge and his love for computers led him to pursue a Master’s Degree in Computer Science/Engineering from the University of Iowa in December 1996. His academic accomplishments were a testament to his determination to excel in his chosen field.
Rob’s professional journey began in 1983 when he joined Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, IA. For fifteen years, he served as a valued computer science/software engineer. In 1998, his adventurous spirit led him to Florida, where he worked as a computer engineer in Tampa until 2001. He then returned to his roots in Cedar Rapids, IA, where he contributed to the field through contract work.
Rob’s unwavering commitment to GE Healthcare was evident as he devoted himself to his work from 2005 to 2023. As a software engineer, he played a vital role in the development of innovative solutions that impacted lives and improved healthcare technologies. On March 1, 2023, Rob embarked on a well-deserved retirement, marking the end of a rewarding career that spanned decades.
Outside of his professional life, Rob found joy in the company of his beloved wife, Vicki. Rob’s caring nature extended to his family on both sides, cherishing moments spent with his family, his in-laws, and his devoted “fur-baby” Ginger.
Rob was a man of many interests, from his love for live concerts and music, fireworks and all things related to sports. He embraced life’s pleasures, attending festivals and sharing laughter with his friends and family. Those who knew Rob will remember him as a lovable, huggable, and funny man, with a sharp mind and a generous heart. He was always there for his loved ones, even in difficult times, offering unwavering support and affection.
