Roger E. Eckert

Passed away on October 8, 2021, Roger E. Eckert (Caledonia, Wisconsin) at the age of 78. He was loved by many, especially his beloved wife of 55 years, Dorinda Elsie (Nee Heinze). Loving Father of Roxanne Rasmussen (Wade), Susanne Bergeron (Arden), Darrell Eckert, and Colleen Johnson (Paul). Dear Grandfather of Audrey (Levi), Alexander, Aimee, Zachary (Liz), Nikolaus, Jared and Lukas, and great grandchildren Elsie and another on the way. Beloved twin brother of Rodney (Dorothea), Miriam Braun, Bruce (Judi), Carol Zimmer and Lowell (Irma). He was cherished by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Roger was smitten from the first time he met Dorinda, going so far as to drive 1,700 miles for a date when she was teaching in Stony Plain, Alberta (Canada). When they got married, he promised her that since she was willing to move away from all of her family and friends, he would do his best to take her home every year to see them. In true Roger fashion, he kept his word, driving 850 miles each way to her hometown of Pembroke, Ontario.

Roger was a big-hearted character, and lived a full life with so many unique stories to tell. A cabbage farmer for most of his life, he loved his family and friends greatly. He was always busy capturing thousands of photos, volunteering at church, driving his big Chryslers, trucks and farm equipment, working the farm, enjoying trains both great and small, telling jokes every time you saw him, and always helping everyone around him. If someone needed anything, he would drop everything and jump right in. Roger also served as a medic in the Army National Guard, qualifying as an Expert Marksman the first time he shot a 1911. He was a fun-loving jack of all trades with many God-given natural talents, and will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 15th 2021 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church (7900 Nicholson Rd, Caledonia, WI 53108). Funeral service will be held on Friday, October 15th 2021 at 1:00 PM at the same location, with entombment to follow @ Forest Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Oak Creek. Funeral service will be live-streamed from the Trinity Lutheran Church and School Caledonia YouTube Channel, and will be archived there for later viewing. In lieu of flowers, donations to Trinity Lutheran Church would be greatly appreciated.

I worked for Roger and Bruce starting at the age of 12. It was a wonderful opportunity to work with them and their dad. My deepest sympathies to their families, definitely some of Caledonia’s best.

Our deepest sympathies. Roger always had a camera nearby, thoughts of trains. And a few Canadian treats he had to indulge in. 🙂 He will be greatly missed. Love to you all. ❤
