Sherwin O. Beyer
February 16, 1940 – October 3, 2024
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Sherwin Beyer. He passed away peacefully on October 3, at the age of 84 in his home, after he said good-bye to all of his children and grandchildren.
Sherwin Beyer was born on February 16, 1940 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Edwin and Olive Beyer. He married the love of his life, Carol Marotz, on May 8, 1965, and together they shared 57 wonderful years of marriage.
Sherwin demonstrated dedication and hard work his whole life through. In his early years, Sherwin was the janitor at his own high school, Lutheran High, owned and managed apartment buildings, worked at the Milwaukee Times, and sold Midwest Racing News at local racetracks. At the same racetracks, Sherwin, alongside his friends and family, started their popcorn truck, Ding-A-Ling Inc. The popcorn trucks brought people together for generations to come. Sherwin is most remembered for his work as a Conductor on Chicago Northwestern/ Union Pacific which cultivated his love of trains. Outside of work, Sherwin enjoyed working on his farm and had a passion for volunteer work. He was a Buckaroo leader at his home church, St. Paul’s Muskego, and the President of the Town of Raymond Business Association. In retirement he proudly sang and performed in the Milwaukee Liederkranz which combined his love of music and his German heritage. Sherwin loved to travel with his family; some of his favorite memories included cross-country trips in their van and numerous visits overseas, a favorite destination being Germany. Sherwin also was known for his generosity and community spirit, often volunteering his time and his treasured popcorn trucks at local events. He was especially proud to provide cotton candy at no charge for community events, always eager to bring smiles to everyone he met.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Sherwin was preceded in death by his brother, Roger, his wife, Carol, and his eldest daughter, Cathy. He lovingly and selflessly cared for Carol during her many years battling Alzheimers and for Cathy during her 3 year battle with cancer until their Heavenly callings. He is survived by his eldest brother, Duane Beyer, and his children Scott (Angela) Beyer, Daniel Beyer, and Gail (Aaron) Holdt. Sherwin is also lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Courtney (Josh) Andersen, Alexandra (Paul) Campen, Kyle Holdt, Julia Beyer, Makayla (Quinten) Lang, and Grace Beyer. Sherwin was fortunate to have nearly two wonderful years with his first great-grandchild, Briley Campen, a joy and blessing in his later years.
Sherwin will be remembered for his deep love of the Lord Jesus, which guided his life and inspired those around him. His faith was a cornerstone of his character, offering strength and comfort to both him and his family. He will be remembered for his selflessness, sense of humor, and love of music, animals, and storytelling. Sherwin touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. While we mourn his loss, we take comfort in knowing that Sherwin is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His legacy of love, faith, and kindness will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
A visitation will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church (S66 W14325 W Janesville Rd, Muskego, WI 53150) on Saturday, October 19, from 9:00am – 11:30am, followed by a service celebrating Sherwin’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod in Sherwin Beyer’s memory.
A beloved friend. A wonderful example to so many. He was one of a kind. His kindness and generosity blessed all of those he met. His beautiful tenor voice will enhance God’s angel choir.
Sherwyn and Carol built their home at the same time as we did. Shortly after we and our children became friends. Our memories of swimming in their pool and going to the races at Hales Corners and Cedarburg will last forever. As we settled into our home, he had four full size trees planted in our front yard.. I could add more, but allow me to say, no one could ask for better neighbors than The Beyer’s.
I am so incredibly sorry to hear of Sherwin’s passing! We sang together in the Milwaukee Liederkranz for years while my father Steven was the conductor. He was an incredible human, and one of the best people I knew to ask stories from, they were always so interesting and amazing!
What a life he led!! I was happy to meet him at a few Vintage events!!
We are saddened to learn this, and have fo many fond memories of his smiling face at Hales Corners Speedway. A life well lived.
