(nee Duerr) Joined the Eternal Choir on Friday, January 3, 2020 at the age of 88 years. Beloved wife of William E. Loving mother of the late Gail Newton, Lori (Russ) Newton-Anderson, Rex (Connie) Newton, Lance (Laura) Newton, Lisa (Jimmy) Muetzelburg, Kathy (Scott) Saltzmann and Jane (Kevin) Johns. Dear grandma of Leah (Matt) Anderson, Alyssa (Eric) Anderson, Kara Anderson, Grant Newton, Talia Newton, Crystal (Hector) Jezdimirovic, Devin Newton, Jamie (Jarred) Penkalski, Kyle (Cali) Muetzelburg, AJ Salzmann, Eric (Laura) Saltzmann, Amy (Joy) Johns, Jessica Johns and Kelly Johns. Great grandma of Ava, Zoey, Ethan, D’Angelo, Diego, Jana, Madi and Wyatt. Sister of Nathalie Kirchman and Kathleen Peters. Sister in law of Dick (Karen) Henkel.
Shirley was blessed with a beautiful voice which she shared at weddings, funerals and church services. Ava Maria, The Lord’s Prayer and Oh, Holy Night never sounded more beautiful. She passed her love of children, dogs, camping and card playing onto her family. Thanks Mom for teaching us Sheepshead and Cribbage.
Bill and Shirley shared the love of travel and trekking to all the corners of the USA.
Shirley is preceded in death by her husband Lester M. Newton, parents Sherwood and Natalie Duerr and daughter Gail Newton.
A memorial gathering will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2020 at NORWAY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 6321 Heg Park, Wind Lake from 9-11AM with a memorial service at 11AM. Inurnment to follow. In lieu of flowers memorials to the American Cancer Society appreciated.
Shirley was a lovely woman who always shared a smile,laugh and a warm loving personality.
Shirley and Bill were are neighbors on Rohda. She was always a lot of fun and a wonderful person!
