Susan (Sue) Elizabeth Callies – née Kopp

Fred and Mary Kopp lost their precious daughter, Sue, on Sunday Morning on August 25th. She passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in her home.

Born in Beloit, WI on July 15th 1967, Sue is also survived by her beloved son Alex Jaskulski (Marissa), her step-son Dan Callies (Emily) of Olympia, WA, her brothers Mark (Andrea) of Canton, MI, John Kopp (Cheryl) of Oak Creek, and Jeff Kopp (Jennifer) of Muskego, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Sue’s husband, Van-Thanh Callies passed away on March 19th, 2018 at the age of 44.

Sue graduated from St. Mary Parish School and Whitnall High School. After earning her degree in criminal justice from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, Sue worked in the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office while attending Marquette University Law School. Upon graduation in 2001, she began working as an attorney for Milwaukee County Child Support Enforcement. In February 2014, Sue was appointed a Family Court Commissioner- a position which she considered her greatest professional achievement and the one she held until her death.

Family and friends were Sue’s top priorities and her love of life was contagious. She truly enjoyed planning family get-togethers, vacations, traveling and shopping. She had a great sense of humor and to many she was the most trusting, honest and generous person they have ever met.  She will be dearly missed.

A two-time cancer survivor, Sue’s efforts to remain cancer-free were valiant but her fragile body finally and quietly succumbed to the many drugs and infusion treatments she was receiving for Vasculitis.

Visitation will be held at St. Mary Parish church, 9520 W. Forest Home Ave, on Friday, August 30th 3:00-5:45pm  with the Mass of Christian Burial immediately following at 6Pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Sue’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital are suggested.

Oh Sue, my truly beloved cousin. If anyone took whatever sting out of restless summers in Wisconsin it must have been you. Your treasure maps for scavenger hunts and stories made up on the fly took the boredom out of any day. Later, you literally changed my life with music of which you had passionately good taste to my young ears.
Though we drifted apart as cousins do, I remembered you fondly and frequently as an integral part of my growing up. You are loved and will be missed my dear Sue.
Condolences of course to my beautiful Aunt Mary and to Uncle Fred.
