Vera and her husband Elroy Stark were long-time members at Zion Lutheran Church, South Milwaukee, WI.  Their friendship developed in the church choir.  Vera taught in Zion Lutheran School grades 4+5, Kindergarten, and grade 3. God blessed her long career, so that eventually she taught the grandchildren of some of her early students.  Vera and Elroy went to Bible class and the social groups at church. They supported Christian Education.  Vera was active in Ladies Aid and Cradle Roll (religious education for the very young.)

In retirement, Elroy and Vera moved to Luther Haven, Milwaukee, WI.  They joined Risen Savior Lutheran Church.  They enjoyed many activities at home and in church.  Elroy passed away in Nov. 2011, age 88.  Vera stayed at Luther Haven until 2019.  Then Vera moved with her son Tom to live in Tucson, AZ .

Vera and Elroy had a special group of friends from Zion Lutheran church, called the SEWING CLUB.  Vera joined Club about 60 years ago and went reguarly.  The young women met in each others’ homes, mending clothes while their children played.  The Club women gave gifts to their “Secret Pal” during the year.  The women, and eventually their husbands, met monthly to enjoy each others’ company with food and games.  Vera enjoyed Club with Arlene Bernthal, Elaine Bernthal, Lorraine Mitzenheim, Dot Dallmann, Lucy Wonoski, Marge Sill, and others.  Some of the dear women and men from Club are already in heaven.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18.  (NIV)
Believers Who Have Died
13 Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. 14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. 15 According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words. “
