Born Jan. 16, 1917 on the Barg family farm in Franklin where he lived all his life. Passed away Oct. 25, 2006. Vernon was married to Virginia nee Stepke on June 14, 1941 and is survived by his dear “Gin”. Vernon and Virginia farmed through 1965 with Vern delivering mail, machining at Ladish and working at the Tretow Garage. He later was a mechanic for Milwaukee County Highway Dept. He was a special “Poppa” to Bonnie Len Lay Neff, Geanine Bob Maurer, Cheryl Bill Poling, Marsha Alan Barg-Karp, and Renee Dan Wink. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Michelle Brian VanHulle, Kristin Neff, Chad Maurer, Curtis Molly Maurer, Carla Jason Link, Bryana Justin Lehman Poling, Scott Poling and Alexander Karp. He recently became a great-grandpa to Paige VanHulle and Evan Link. Vernon is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Annette nee Meyer Barg; sisters, Elaine Edwin Lueneberg, Ellen Otto Friebel, Gladys Allen Nurnberg and Eunice Martin Lang. Many of his friends and family have preceded him in death.

Vernon was involved in the inception and continuation of many community activities. Vernon and Virginia were on the Franklin 4th of July Committee for 32 years, Lions/Lionesses for 35 years, Franklin Historical Society for 40 years current president emeritus, school board for 20 years, Fire and Police Commission for 20 years, Franklin Town Clerk for 5 years, City Clerk for 4 years and Alderman for 2 years. Vernon and Virginia also helped institute the polio clinic with Dr. Wolf from 1957-1962. He also delivered eye tissue for the Lions until 5 years ago. Vernon received many awards in his life’s work: Lions Service, Appreciation and Melvin Jones Awards, Wisconsin Donor Network Appreciation Award, Franklin 4th of July Service and Parade Marshall Awards, Franklin Jaycees Distinguished Service Award, Franklin Chamber of Commerce William Shehan Pioneer Award, Franklin School Board Appreciation and Honor Certificates, U.S. Jaycees Distinguished Service Award, Franklin Bicentennial Recognition, Wisconsin Lions Eye Bank Award, Vernon Barg Week Proclamation by the City of Franklin and the Lions Legend Park St. Peter’s Chapel dedication.

We thank the many family members and friends who visited or called. He so appreciated being remembered.

Visitation Sat., 9-11 AM at the Funeral Home with Funeral Service at 11 AM. Interment Pilgrims Rest Cemetery. Memorials to the Franklin Historical Society or the Franklin Lions Club appreciated.
