(nee Pociecha) Born to Eternal Life February 26, 2022, age 88 years. Beloved wife of the late Stephen J. Kerns. Cherished mother of Judy (Tom) Barker, Mary (Mark) Reel, Nancy (Don) Klain and Stephen G. (Nancy) Kerns. Proud grandmother of Jennifer (Ryan) McNally, Katie (Mark) Parilla, Margaret (Jon) Wehausen, Matthew Stardy, Erik (Cecelia) Reel, Jon (Cheri) Klain, Andrew (Natalie) Klain, Vincent Klain, Stephen (fiancée Christa), John Kerns and Jim Kerns. Dear sister of Edward Pociecha. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends – especially her dear friends in Rockford and most recently at New Berlin Regency.
She grew up in Milwaukee, graduated in cosmetology from MATC and also studied in New York City. She returned to Milwaukee and worked as a beautician at Schuster’s.
She met Steve, the love of her life at a dance and in less than a year they were married – a marriage that would last over 61 years. The couple eventually moved to Rockford where she raised their four children. Her Catholic faith and her family were her priorities – Ginny and Steve were charter members of St. Bernadette Catholic Church where she enjoyed singing in the funeral choir.
She was employed at Bergner’s and Rockford Memorial Hospital. She was blessed with many artistic talents including drawing, painting, floral arranging, creating beautiful gardens and had a keen sense of style. She enjoyed swimming and fancied herself a synchronized swimmer – she also enjoyed dancing to a good polka.
She was very sociable and will be remembered for her compassionate and generous heart. She brought joy to everyone with her great sense of humor and touched many lives throughout the years.
