Virginia R. Nowak (Pee Wee)

Passed away peacefully September 6, 2023. Born May 14, 1929 to Mary (Dziewit) and Joseph Mioduszewski. Preceded in death by husband Jimmy, daughter Susan and son Tom, brothers Joseph (Ruth), George and Edward Mioduszewski, nephews Robert, Bradley and Mike Mioduszewski. Survived by grandsons Anthony and Ronald Nowak, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Though small in stature, she was a strong, feisty, independent woman. She suffered the loss of her daughter at the age of 18 from an auto accident. She cared for her ailing mother. She tended to her husband as he battled cancer, and did the same for her son through many illnesses. She worked many years as a meat wrapper for the old A&P. From there, she worked as a part of the cleaning staff at St. Mary’s Hospital. After retiring, she enjoyed her gardening, canning her tomatoes and cucumbers she grew. Being an excellent cook, she often made meals for family gatherings, special events and picnics. Anyone who stopped by was always offered something to eat and something sweet. Pee Wee loved animals and usually had a canine companion by her side. She once nursed a sparrow back to health. When she tried to release it, the bird would not leave, and became her pet. Her passion for rummage sales and resale shops was well known. She would never pass up a good bargain. After her health failed and she wasn’t able to live on her own, she eventually settled in at Matthew’s Assisted Living Facility in Oak Creek. It was hard for her to give up her independence-not being able to drive, just get up and go, or even cook for herself. At the facility, she did enjoy playing bingo, which according to her, won quite often! She kept herself busy with her knitting which she was very good at, making caps, blankets and afghans for staff members and other residents. She and her sister-in-law Rose continued their Sunday shopping runs and lunches thru the years. When she required oxygen, Rose’s grandson Jonathan stepped in to take the ladies out, with the portable oxygen tanks along for the ride. When she got behind the wheel of the electric shopping cart, she was like a race car driver and a force to be reckoned with…but she never hit anyone. The past few months, she became weaker and more frail. She was no longer able to do the things she loved. Her body was tired, and she was ready to leave this earth and reunite with her loved ones, especially her son and daughter. Rest in peace dear Pee Wee, you were loved and will be missed by many. Special thanks to Matthew’s staff and hospice nurse, Debbie.
