Walter Robert Herzog “Wally”
Wally joined his beautiful wife of 58 years, Rosalie (Tomaszewski) on heaven’s polka dance floor on April 16, 2021. Afterward, God dealt a hand of sheepshead, poker, or pinochle with Wally’s wife’s family Joanne (Bob) Fulwiler, Jerry (Nancy) Tomaszewski, Theresa (Leroy) Grissmeyer and Vern Malliet. Wally will again be precision machining with his sister’s husband, Bill Boll.
Wally is survived by his sister Inge (Herzog) Boll, sister-in-law Lee Malliet, many nieces and nephews, including his special financial advisor and nephew, Darryl Witkowski, all of whom he loved to see.
His daughter Stacie (Steve) Piacsek DDS misses him terribly but finds comfort in what he taught her, including his passion for competition through the love of bowling and golf, and more importantly, his fierce independence and work ethic as a German-Polish immigrant.
Wally was born to Fritz and Agnes (Schampera) Herzog, on January 27, 1934 in Einbeck, Germany. Leaving the worn torn country with nothing but a few suitcases, October 20, 1951 was a most thankful day of being processed on Ellis Island. Wally fulfilled his sponsorship and documented employment at age 17 working for Holton Hunkle Greenhouse Co. and at his Uncle Johnny’s garage pumping gas in Brown Deer. Proudly, he carried his 1951 Workers Verification card in his wallet the day he went to heaven.
Wally mastered English so quickly that when he met Rosalie, she did not believe his “I am a worldly traveler” telling him “You are from Milwaukee.” Very in love, they married on October 25, 1958. Wally’s crowning achievement was becoming a legal American Citizen in 1960. He lived the promised dream as a precision machinist at Rose Co., Pratt Co., Boll Manufacturing, and retired from Allis Tool Corp.
The happiest years of Wally’s life was being Grandpa to (finally!) boys; Mitchell (23), Carsen (20), Trevor (19), Kendrick (17). He was their infant and child day care provider and shared fishing and hunting stories with them. Wally was their LOUDEST fan at soccer, basketball, and football games. His thunderous clap was always heard at Christmas concerts, plays, and piano recitals. Wally lived 87 years long for his grandkids to enjoy him. God granted Wally’s wish by taking him at his own home. Hours before that, Wally drove to church and completed his scheduled perpetual hour of adoration, something that he did with his wife for 15 years. Special thanks to his landscaper friend, Mike Benfield and his Dr. Brueggeman and Vera, who brought care and smiles to his face.
Visitation will be held Monday, May 3rd, from 10 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 8500 W. Cold Spring Rd. Burial at St. Adalbert Cemetery to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or St. John the Evangelist Church are appreciated.
Dad, you were never a “humbuck hassle”, you are an inspiration. We will forever love you.
What a beautiful obituary! He was a special man. I’m certain he is enjoying seeing his Rosie again!
My thoughts are with all of you ❤. Stacie, I know how much you cared for your dad. My heart breaks for you and your family.
“Oh” Wally! I’m truly sad for the loss of my beer buddy! But I am so grateful for the time we shared on the fishing trip to Texas and the many memory sessions at the kitchen table after grass cutting, snow shoveling and just checking in! I am glad the air is again flowing freely and you can join Rosalie in Heaven! I’m at St John’s honoring your memory in a place that showed your devout commitment to Rosalie and God! Till WE meet again MY FRIEND! Prost!
