Wood, William A. “Bill”
of Three Lakes, WI formerly of Wauwatosa, was reunited with the love of his life, his wife Margaret “Peggy” (nee Clare) on Saturday, January 13, 2018. Bill was born on May 21, 1932 in Ann Arbor, MI. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1954 with his B.B.A. He served his country in the United States Army from 1954 through 1956. After his service, he returned to University of Michigan to complete his M.B.A in 1957. Bill and Peggy met while students at the University and were married in 1955. Bill was a CPA and partner at Ernst & Young. He began his career in 1957 when he joined the local accounting firm of Fonteine, McCurdy & Company in Milwaukee. The firm merged with Arthur Young & Company and eventually merged again to become Ernst & Young. He was a partner from 1969 until his retirement in 1991. In addition, he was a member of the Wisconsin Society of CPAs, American Institute of CPAs, and served as many roles including vice-president and president of the Milwaukee Chapter of the National Association of Accountants. Before retiring in Three Lakes, Bill & Peggy raised their 5 children in Wauwatosa.

Over the years, Bill was active in many organizations and served on several boards but most noteworthy was his work with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society – Wisconsin Chapter. He served on the board from 1978 – 1991 as an executive member, secretary, treasurer and eventually Chairman of the Board. He led the effort of the board to merge the Wisconsin branches and took them national. Bill was Chairman of the board when they began their most successful fundraising efforts; Walk MS and Bike MS. His leadership greatly influenced the expansion of services for people with MS throughout the state of Wisconsin.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Peggy, his daughter Patricia Midtling, grandson Samuel Wood and his parents, Arthur and Sarah (nee Grant) Wood. Bill is survived by his children Diane (James) Dooley , Sarah (Jeffrey) Trost, Kathleen (Jeffrey) Jokisch and James (Michelle) Wood; grandchildren; Matthew (Ashley) Midtling, Nicholas (Kelly) Dooley, Kara(Benjamin) Rebholz, Jennifer Midtling, Nathan (Keely) Dooley, Christopher (Jacqueline) Midtling, Kaitlin Dooley, Jeffrey Trost, Rachael Trost, Stephanie Midtling, Lauren Jokisch, Hannah Trost, Alexa Jokisch, Micaela Midtling, Abigail Wood, Andrew Wood, Daniel Jokisch, Olivia Midtling and Grace Wood; and 5 great-grandchildren; Maya & Evan Dooley, Beau & Leo Rebholz and Nicholas Midtling.

Bill loved his retired life in “God’s Country.” He loved to walk his dogs, his many golf leagues, card groups, snowmobiling, boating and his Three Lakes dartball league the Nomads. Bill was active over the years in many Three Lakes community organizations. In addition, Bill and Peggy loved to travel with the University of Michigan Alumni Association. He has been to every continent, most European countriesand many exotic places: such as Africa, Galapagos Islands, Thailand, Greek Isles, Turkey, Australia, New Zealand, Argentina and Antarctica.

His family wishes to thank: Debbie & Dick Selman, Jack & Sandy Schlaefer, Lew & Meredith Holbrook as well as all of his friends that treated him like family. In addition, we would like to thank Margaret, Karen & Rebecca from Loving Touch Home Health Care and The Three Lakes Pharmacy.

Visitation will take place on Saturday Jan. 27, 2018 at HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, 16680 W. National Ave, New Berlin, WI, from 11 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm. Celebration of a life well lived to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to Ovarian Research Fund Alliance, Rein in Sarcoma, or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society – Wisconsin Chapter.
